Through practical exercises and demonstrations, we’ll develop a greater understanding of composition, colour, light, mark-making, atmosphere, subject choice and creative decision-making — helping you paint with more confidence, expression and intention.

Artistic Intelligence is our new 6-week course designed to explore the thinking behind successful art. This course aims to strengthen the decision-making skills that underpin confident and expressive painting.
Across six sessions, we’ll investigate composition, colour relationships and tonal structure, brushwork, atmosphere, depth, rhythm and focal points. Through demonstrations, discussion and practical exercises, we’ll learn how to make stronger artistic choices with greater confidence!
We’ll explore:
- Composition and visual balance
- Understanding light, depth and form
- Colour mixing and colour temperature
- Expressive mark-making and brushwork
- Simplification and editing
- Creating mood and atmosphere
- Subject selection and storytelling
- Developing personal style
As part of the course, we’ll also look at thoughtful ways artists can utilise modern technology and digital tools to support creativity, idea development and visual research without losing individuality or authenticity.
